SkyBuds vs Tonies: two different jobs
The short version: a Toniebox plays stories, a SkyBud has a conversation. Tonies is a screen-free audio player for kids as young as 1. Your child places a small painted figurine on the box and it plays that character's recorded stories and songs. SkyBuds is a plush companion for ages 3 to 10 that talks back, remembers what your kid tells it, and makes up stories with them instead of for them.

When Tonies is the better buy
Your child is under 3. Tonies starts at age 1 and SkyBuds does not, full stop. It is also the safer pick if your kid mostly wants familiar characters read to them at bedtime, if you want a product with years of reviews behind it, or if you need something in hand this week. The figurine library is enormous and the box has survived a lot of toddlers.
When SkyBuds is the better buy
Your kid narrates, asks why forty times a day, and talks to their stuffed animals already. Recorded audio runs out; a conversation does not. A SkyBud remembers the dog's name and yesterday's dragon story and picks up where they left off. If the thing you want is less passive listening and more back-and-forth talk, that is the job SkyBuds was built for. Weigh the honest caveats too: it is a pre-order, and COPPA certification is still in progress.
