Our honest advice, before any product: a steady routine does more at bedtime than anything you can buy. If you add one thing, make it a plain stuffed animal. Comfort objects are a normal part of childhood, and they never need charging.
That said, some products genuinely earn a spot in the wind-down. Here is an honest look at what helps, what to skip, and where a talking toy fits (and where it does not).
Routine first, product second
The boring stuff does the heavy lifting. Same bedtime, dim lights, a predictable order of events, then lights out. In our experience, a child who knows what comes next has less to fight about. No toy replaces that, and any product you buy should slot into the routine you already have, ideally at the same point every night.
Comfort objects are good, actually
Child development folks call them transitional objects. Parents call them "the bear we cannot leave the house without." Either way, a beloved plush that lives in the bed is one of the oldest sleep tools there is. It costs little or nothing and it cannot break. If your child already has a favorite, you may not need anything else on this page.

Audio players: the safe bedtime bet
For pure wind-down, a Toniebox or a Yoto is hard to argue with. Both are screen-free and play recorded stories, and neither talks back, which at bedtime is often exactly what you want. The story ends and the room goes quiet. If your only goal is calmer bedtimes, one of these is probably the better buy. Tonies leans younger and more character-driven; Yoto leans toward audiobooks. Neither is conversational, and at 8pm that can be a feature.
A word on story projectors
