Curio: the plush with AI built in
Curio (heycurio.com) is an AI plush line with eight characters, including Gabbo and Grem, and a Grimes affiliation. It was $119 when we checked, down from $150. It ships now, works in English only, and comes with a parent app that shows transcripts of what your child said. By their own statements, the AI runs in the cloud through OpenAI and Gemini. Listed for ages 3 and up.
BubblePal: the orb that makes your plush talk
Haivivi's BubblePal takes a different route. It is a clip-on AI orb: you attach it to a stuffed animal your child already owns. You pick the character voice in the app, so one orb can play many roles. Retailer prices ranged roughly $90 to $150 when we looked, it ships now, and it covers ages 3 to 12. The upside is obvious: your child's favorite bear gets a voice. The trade-off is that the voice comes from the clip-on orb rather than from the toy itself.
SkyBuds: built-in plush with languages and memory
SkyBuds is our screen-free AI companion plush for ages 3 to 10, with three characters: Ash the brave fire dragon, Pearl the calm unicorn, and Sprout the gentle nature bear. Two things separate it. It speaks more than 75 languages, which matters in bilingual homes where an English-only toy hits a wall. The honest trade-off: ships now vs pre-order
If you need a toy in hand this week, for a birthday or a long flight, buy Curio or BubblePal. That is the whole answer. A pre-order cannot compete with a box on your doorstep, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise. SkyBuds does come with a 30-day refund policy from delivery and a real support line at (978) 541-3603, Monday to Friday 10 to 2 ET. None of that changes the calendar.
The pre-order makes sense when the missing features matter more than the wait. Maybe a grandmother who speaks Spanish wants to hear her grandchild practice with the toy. Maybe you want a companion that still knows the dog's name next Tuesday. If those are your reasons, waiting is rational.
