Where to Buy an AI Companion Toy Without Getting Burned

Buy directly from the maker's official store, or from a retailer the maker links to from their own site. For the toys in this category, that means heycurio.com for Curio, us.tonies.com for Tonies, us.yotoplay.com for Yoto, and getskybuds.com for SkyBuds.

Quick disclosure before we go further: we make SkyBuds. This guide covers our competitors too, and getskybuds.com is our only official store. If you see SkyBuds for sale anywhere else, it is not us.

Why the store matters more than usual

An AI companion toy is different from a puzzle or a set of blocks. For toys like this, the talking usually depends on the maker's servers, so you are buying an ongoing relationship with a company. You want that company to be real and reachable, with policies you can read before you hand over money.

Families learned this the hard way with Moxie, a $799 companion robot. The company behind it shut down in late 2024, the servers went dark in January 2025, and the robots stopped working, with no refunds. Those families did nothing wrong. They bought a real product from a company that later could not keep the lights on. So the checklist below covers two risks at once: copycat listings, and companies that may not be around next year.

What to check before you pay anywhere

A published refund policy. Find it before checkout, and read the window and the conditions. If a store hides its refund terms, walk away. Ours is 30 days from delivery, posted at /pages/refund-policy, with shipping details at /pages/shipping-policy.

Support you can actually reach. A phone number or email where a human responds. Test it before buying if you want. Ours is (978) 541-3603, Monday to Friday, 10 to 2 ET, and a human answers.

A real company name. The store should tell you what legal entity you are buying from. Our parent app is published by Firefly Jar, Inc. on the Apple App Store and Google Play, so you can see who is behind the product before you spend anything.

Seal claims you can verify. If a site shows a kidSAFE seal, check the claim yourself at kidsafe.com, an independent seal program for children's digital products. SkyBuds is kidSAFE Listed, and our COPPA certification is in progress, not complete. We say it that way on purpose. A store that inflates its badges will inflate other things too.

Ships now or pre-order. Know which one you are buying. SkyBuds is currently a pre-order; see the product page for current pricing and ship dates. If waiting makes you nervous, buy something that ships today.

About copycat listings

Popular toy names attract lookalike stores and marketplace listings, sometimes with a similar name on a different domain. Say it plainly: getskybuds.com is the only official SkyBuds store, and we are not related to the discontinued Skybuds wireless earbuds sold by Alpha Audiotronics from 2016 to 2018. If a listing is somewhere else and claims to sell SkyBuds, we did not make it and cannot stand behind it. The same rule works for every brand in the table above: start from the official domain and follow links outward.

When someone else is the better buy

Honestly, sometimes they are. If your budget is under $100 and you want a toy that talks, TalkiPal was $69.99 on sale when we checked. If your kid already has one beloved plush, BubblePal clips onto it and makes that plush talk instead of replacing it. If you would rather skip conversational AI entirely, Tonies and Yoto play recorded stories and audiobooks, screen free, and both ship now. We would rather you buy the right thing from a real store than the wrong thing from anyone.

One last caveat: prices, stock, and policies in this category change constantly. Before you pay anywhere, open the maker's official site, read the refund policy top to bottom, and verify any seal claim at kidsafe.com.
